About the PiBS Training Program

Mission

This Pathways in Biological Sciences (PiBS) program is a cornerstone of the PhD training effort in the School of Biological Sciences at UC San Diego, as it helps support the best graduate students from in labs in the School of Biological Sciences and the Salk Institute. The mission of the NIGMS T32-supported PiBS program is to provide rigorous training for outstanding young researchers in the early years of their doctoral studies, who are interested in the molecular mechanisms of a diverse array of biological phenomena. Specific emphasis is placed upon the creativity, quality, and impact of the research, the ethical conduct of research, the achievement of diversity among researchers, the ability of the trainees to communicate their results effectively, and the promotion of cooperation and collaboration among scientists.
